In December 2019, Wittus Witt has issued a German postage stamp featuring famous past magic dealers Rosa & Janos Bartl. The stamp comes as one of many extras with Witt’s latest German publication, the A-B-C der Taschenspieler-Kunst. However, it is directly linked to Birgit Bartl-Engelhardt’s major Bartl biography, which came out – also published by Wittus Witt – just a few months earlier last year.
Rechtzeitig zu Weihnachten hat Wittus Witt seine neueste, ambitionierte Publikation auf den Markt gebracht: Das A-B-C der Taschenspieler-Kunst. Als Schriftenreihe für Liebhaber geplant, hat sich schon die Erstausgabe zu einem richtigen Buch ausgewachsen: 156 Seiten Umfang, fest gebunden, edel gedruckt, mit Schutzumschlag und diversen Beilagen (Poster-Reprint und Zauberbriefmarken) versehen. Es sollen künftig zwei Ausgaben pro Jahr erscheinen.

Da ich selbst mit einem Beitrag vertreten sein darf, fällt mein Urteil natürlich nicht ganz neutral aus, doch unabhängig davon ist dieses Werk aus meiner Sicht ein sprichwörtliches “Muss” zum Blättern, Schmökern und Genießen für jeden Zaubersammler und -historiker!

I’m happy and a bit proud to report that I have just unearthed another Houdini postage stamp. I am not aware of any magic collectors’ sources that have mentioned this stamp so far, but of course I may be wrong.
The stamp was issued in Mozambique, Africa, in 2010 (the year of his passing), as part of a series of eight stamps which depict some Tony Curtis movies. The top left stamp of the set features the movie “Houdini” from 1953, with Tony Curtis in the leading role and Janet Leigh as Bess, his partner and assistant (and back then his wife in real life).
And now go and collect it!

Zum FISM Weltkongress 2009 in Peking erschien dieser schöne Markenbogen. Er war in den Kongressunterlagen aller Teilnehmer enthalten. Ein selbstloser Zauberfreund hat ihn mir seinerzeit netterweise für meine Sammlung überlassen. (Danke, Detlev!)
Anfang des vergangenen Jahrhunderts waren Reklamemarken groß in Mode. Sie wurden von Firmen herausgegeben und bewarben alle möglichen Produkte, oftmals in Serien. Gelegentlich fanden sich auch magische Motive. Eine eigene Reklamemarke wurde beispielsweise zum Zauberbuch Der Kartenkünstler in der Westentasche veröffentlicht:

I came across this selfmade stamp sticker in a major collection of magic postage stamps which I evaluated for a friend. However, its creator is unknown to me. But I like the friendly look of the rabbit! He seems to wave at the audience, maybe right after appearing from a top hat?
This might have served as a personal bookplate, too.

In late 2017, the U.S. Postal Service Office has announced a wonderful series of five stamps celebrating “The Art of Magic”, see below. I quote:
The Art of Magic
The Postal Service celebrates the art of magic with this pane of 20 stamps featuring digital illustrations of five classic tricks magicians use to amaze and delight audiences: a rabbit in a hat (production), a fortune teller using a crystal ball (prediction), a woman floating in the air (levitation), an empty bird cage (vanishing), and a bird emerging from a flower (transformation).
I have yet to see the trick of a flower transforming into a bird in real life, but hey! I like the design of this series and will gladly add it to my collection. However, no exact publication date has been given yet.
The latest addition to my magic stamps collection came from France, where a series of circus images was issued last year, one of them featuring the proverbial rabbit in a top hat.
